Our primary goal is philanthropy. At current, all members must select an educational charity upon registration. A percentage of the fees collected by SearchingForSomething.com from the member for various products and services will go to the members designated charity. The site also offers all 501(c)(3) corporations the opportunity to list and request donations for their non-profit organization.
In order to achieve our primary goal, SearchingForSomething.com aims to provide its members with the ultimate in Social Media. No doubt the world is changing and it is changing at a very intense pace. Nobody these days can say that our society is the same as it was 20 years ago. Not that long ago, one could accurately say that technology changes our society. Now, however, it is society creating the demand for new technology.
Social Media created new ways of communication, entertainment, advertising, education, etc. Social Networking through Social Media further enables societies to communicate with anyone and anywhere. People of all ages, races and classes, which have access to Social Media technology, are empowered to communicate with anyone they want. The history of economic development is filled with centuries of cottage industry where local businesses sold to local merchants. The instant and low cost communication of Social Media has made the entire world one cottage. Social Media has changed our society by making it global.
Thus, convergence technology, social networking sites and the applications which link the two together enhance freedom and mobility. They offer people the ability to access information and communicate with others at any time and in any place regardless of the physical location of the information or of other people. People can maintain a constant connection with existing friends and family who might live in different countries, or they can form new relationships with other nationalities, regardless of ‘real time’ or separate locations. Further, the virtual anonymity of online experience helps to reduce social discomfort and discrimination, or stereotyping otherwise associated with real-life perceptions of age, disabilities, race, gender, or culture. By communicating online, it allows people to see past physical differences and focus on a deeper connection, discovering similarities that may have been previously disregarded.
So by forming groups of people with similar interests, social networking sites can create a sense of unity and belonging in people who might have previously felt alienated in society because of an inability to relate to local people. Particularly in areas with smaller populations, the chance of discovering others with similar interests is infrequent but by removing these location barriers through online communication, the chance of meeting people with the same interests is greatly increased. At SearchingForSomething.com, our philosophy is that by encouraging online communication between local people and groups, relationships are therefore likely to be stronger offline, as people become more informed and involved in local events. It is this philosophy which leads to our philanthropic goals. As knowledge is fostered through education, we'll start there and see where it goes.
Best regards,
Dr. John Doolin MA, MBA, PhD
